​NATURE FEST 2022 
Meeting #2 | April 14th @5:30pm
 
Present: Chase, Margaret, Betty, Kathy, Marc, Paula, Missie, Marilyn
 
Time of event: 11:00AM to 2:00 PM
Set up: Semicircle behind NC- food/drinks; presenters; crafters/vendors.  Determine placement for music
            Chase will do map; maybe highlight TPP info on other side?
Attendance: Undecided if way to determine how many people come.  Open to ideas. Other events that day, also.
 
Music- Charlie and Cooltones ($750)
            Either hourly or each half hour has 5-10 minute presentation
 
Food- TPP hot dogs/chips, drinks, ice cream; may be able to use additional hot dog cookers- North patio
            Margaret- check on additional cookers
 
Beer/Spirits- Served in cans/bottles- South patio- $5 wrist band + free drink; remaining drinks $5
            Chase will contact Dogfish; check on coolers/ice
            Margaret will check permit requirements
 
Presentations- Separate notes. Intend to have some give short talk about their organization
 
Crafters/vendors- $25/booth (10x10); extra for larger booth?
            Missie- has DNREC Airstream coming for merchandise sales
            Marilyn- use vendor lists from BWSF and JJ
check on Cabalas (266-2300; 1100 Christiana Mall #1410, Newark 19702; Freeman Randolph General Manager
 
50/50 and Door prize raffles- Have table near patios
 
TPP booth- Have table near patios
 
Port-A-Potties- set up like BWSF?
 
To do:  When have enough information, let Missie know so she can contact campers registered for that weekend.  Info should include food/beer/spirits setup, potential presenters, and general information

​NATURE FESTIVAL
STATUS UPDATE PROGRAMS/PRESENTERS 
April 11, 2022
 
BIRDSEED SALES- MO- Contacted Sandee Coyle ( 947-2067) with FOCHSP- Extremely helpful, sent information on set up.  They make about $1500 on project.  She gave me contact in Pennsylvania.  They sell sunflower seeds, thistle, song bird and wild bird seed, safflower, squirrel snacks and peanut splits and suet cakes.  Depending on product- 3, 20, 25, 40 or 50 pound bags.  They do 40% mark up since it’s for good cause.
 
LANDSCAPING-WILL- check with Nanticoke Watershed Alliance (Beth) for pollinator and butterfly gardens or other specialties.  Also, James Passwaters (302-856-2656) - his business works with pollinators
 
DELAWARE HUMANITIES- WILL- Contact them for the medicinal use of native plants and the Native American speaker
 
BEES- MO- Get with the Beekeepers (Carla Lewis-302-236-4115) - Talked with Carla (clewis4863@gmail.com), and their VP, Chris Dominic (de.beekeepers.vpsussex@gmail.com), would probably do presentation, and they would have a table. MO needs to send email. WILL to get with Emily Wine (Bee Inspector) with Dept. Ag.- topics native plants; grounds
 
RAIN GARDENS AND RAIN BARRELS- WILL- Check with Watershed Stewardship (Diane Callaway did barrel) - barrels used for water gardens, washing cars, etc.
 
RECYCLE (DSWA)- MO- Talked with Stacey (739-5361; seh@dswa.com)at DSWA, and they will plan on coming.  She will send contact closer to time.  They may be willing to do a 10 minute presentation on recycle, repurpose, and reuse.  MO needs to send email.
 
BOW (Becoming an Outdoors Woman) - WILL- Check with Lynn Pusey
 
R.E.I. - MO- Talked with Alexis (ahiggin@rei.com; 369-1938).  They are very interested in doing our event.  Currently, R.E.I. has restrictions on any outreach, but Alexis said we would be at the top of their list when/if they are lifted.  They’re willing to do a display and presentation on their products.  I’m to send them an email, and they will promote the Nature Fest to their staff.
 
DELAWARE FISH AND WILDLIFE- WILL- See about having fishing tournament
 
DELAWARE BASS MASTERS- WILL- Will they bring boat for display/safety
 
TREE FOR EVERY DELAWAREAN- MO- Still trying to reach Kesha (698-4578) - several attempts.  I will send email.  Will also check about Forestry speaker.  Also interested in Comprehensive Response to Climate Change
 
COASTAL KAYAK- WILL- Check to see if they would do short tours ($)
 
DELAWARE NATURE SOCIETY- MO- Talked with Matt Babbitt (422-0847 x3102) at Abbott’s Mill and Erynn (239-2334; erynn@delnature.org) at DNS.  They’re interested, and I need to send them an email. We’re interested in what they do, their take on the environment and their back packing trips. Will said John Harrod (302-656-1490 x156) is another contact for that.
 
SUSSEX COUNTY CONSERVATION DISTRICT- WILL- Talk with Brent Marsh on their programs

NATURE FEST 2022 (WITH BEER GARDEN)

Meeting #1 March 9th
It has been decided to have the Nature Fest with Beer Garden this year that will focus on the environment.  The group brainstormed potential programs and presenters of interest.  Will and Marilyn will work on making the initial contacts prior to our next meeting that will be: WEDNESDAY, APRIL 13TH AT 5:30PM AT THE NATURE CENTER PRIOR TO THE MONTHLY MEETING.  WE NEED VOLUNTEERS TO HELP PLAN THIS.
